You have to connect them a WHOLE lot, and even after they have four hearts under each other's names in the friend list, you still have to connect even more. But if you are using 2 different versions of tamagotchi, then the characters have to exist in both of the types. (example-you can't mate a v3 dorotchi with a v1 mametchi because dorotchi is not in v1) Hope I helped!
