It's like your Tamagotchi character is the owner of the toy/music shop. You select one of the shops and you should see your character standing there, waiting for customers to come in (you won't actually see this, it's implied). If something is purchased, your character will earn money. If not, your character will look sad. Sometimes your character will even lose money. It takes a few tries to see this happen.
