My tama's habbits

My tamagotchi is 0yrs old. Its mother recently left and it was 12:45 in the morning when I noticed that it was awake. My problem is that my tama keeps going to sleep and sleeping for about 10mins, than waking up hungry and with no happiness. It keeps doing this and I'm afriad to go to sleep, since it could starve the death in the middle of the night.

What life stage is it in? And about the being scared to sleep...you can always pause it by holding down "a" and "b" at the same time.
