i'm getting my first tama (V2) and my friend has a tama. she said that u have to name it before u find out it is a girl or boy. she also said that u give it a last name. her tama's name is:

i'm not sure if she has V1 or its a fake tama. because i've never seen a tama like hers.

on version 2 you find out the gender first, then you can name it.

Your friend probably has a fake Tamagotchi because on real ones, its name can only be 5 letters long, and it cannot have last name. Also, on a V2, the egg hatches and it says the gender. Then you can name it.
