Odd oscillating numbers?

I did the 'connecting with an egg' thing on my v2 a while ago. And I did it on my V3 today.

It did the rom test and went to the connecting thing. but when I connected it just froze at the 'Go!' screen and did nothing.

Then afterwards it did this -

I'm not sure if you can see but it kept on oscilating between 977 and 999. I think it went to 1001 once. it's still doing it now and is not responding to anything. Nothing the reset button will help. I took the battery out and it stopped doing it.

Anyone know what these numbers mean?

I assume it's something like the IR frequency when connecting.
