If you don't want them to die then pause your tamagotchi at night, and unpause it in the morning. As most of you know, tamagotchi parents leave at midnight. So be sure to unpause it after 12 am 
I did this, and my mimitchi lived to about 20 before I finally decided it was time for her to go.. boy that was sad :\
