My main question is; how do you figure which is appropiate -- and WHEN?

I purchased my v1 Tama last year sometime, and have since lost the directions.

same here, but I remember some of them, since my Tama's batteries ran out a minute ago, I can't think without my BABY! TOGO! Mama's getting you some batteries!
