an uncharacteristic display of generosity from EA, but then again they've probably made all the money they're ever going to make out of the sims 2. a good way to hype up the series for the release of 4 though

i heard that in the interest of fairness, everyone who already owns the sims 2 can be upgraded to the ultimate collection as well

It's annoying because, there are many people out there like myself who have spent a ton of money on the Sims and the expansion packs. However, I think this was a great way to allow others who haven't had the opportunity to experience the Sims 2. I luckily managed to get it onto my other laptop but i'm yet to download it.
