V3 Question - Smily face mean anything?

I've had more than one generations on my tamagotchi, but now is the time I noticed there's a little smily icon next to the age of my TamaPet's parent. Just wondering if this feature means anything like how well our relationship was together or something, or is it just there?

It is basiclly 'just there'.

The only smiley faces that mean anything are in your buddy list.
