v4 Infrared Connection... HELP SOON PLEASE!

Ok, i have 2 v4's (1 for christmas, 1 with my own money) and my sister has 1 from christmas. we have tried to connect them but none of them work! (and no, they are definately NOT fakes) This is what happens:

I try to connect using 'ver.4'

It says 'stand by' for about 8 seconds

then they both go back to their normal screens

What the heck is going on? Please, someone tell me EXACTLY how to connect my v4's!

Get 'both' of your Tamagotchi's onto the 'standby' screen.

Then, on one of them, press the middle button, it will connect to the other.
