When your battery dies can you still save your pet

If you are on a Gen2 or something when you replace the batteries do you have to start again at gen 1 or is it possible to still have your pet.

If you're battery dies, then you just replace the battery and press the "Reset" button on the back of the Tamagotchi Unit.

You will have two options: "Download" or "Reset". If you want to start over from Generation 1 then you would hit "Reset", but if you want to keep your current game going then you press "Download" and your Tama will start at the last major event that occured, like waking up.
