Where did tamagotchis come fromwhen did they start

I want to know how long tamagotchis have been around and where they originally came from?

It began in Japan, and this Japanese guy made them up! Pretty cool huh? Tamagotchi's are VERY old! My brother is really surprised that we still have them around!
