I agree with what other people said above, about how tamagotchis can be played with by both genders, but I think that tamas are supposedly more associated with females not only because of their designs, but also because a sort of nurturing nature is attached to taking care of a tama.

I think that girls play with them more, especially the more recent releases of tama. Though as others have said, sometimes their designs make me feel a little too girly... Honestly I like more neutral designs. A girly one every now and then isn't bad though (I am a girl). I also kinda miss the fact that they were more neutral with game play. Don't get me wrong - I love the new advancements they have made with tamas like the +color and ID and all, but it seems they could get back into the market for boys if they brought something back like digimon. I miss digimon :<
