The ability to feel empathy about a parent leaving a young child (the tamababy cries so it is obviously distressed) either in a movie or in pixels or in real life, teaches us how to feel emotions outside of our own experience. Understanding how others feel (empathy) is essential for humans to be able to get along. It is a part of what is lacking in our species at the moment.
Movies, stories and toys help humans to experience these sorts of emotions indirectly. It is good practice for when you need to experience the real thing.
