Tamgotchi Devil LCD Screen leaking

Recommended Posts

I'm having that Devilgotchi for many yeas, it was stored in a drawer. Recently, I reactivated it and somehow it has some LCD like looking stains at the corners of the screen...

Luckily these stains are very minimal and are not bothering much, but i still find it a bit sad. Does anybody know what could have caused these?

Does anyone know how to fix it?

Thanks in advance.photo_2019-11-04_22-18-28.thumb.jpg.cb2f580d12f1e41c89a1f3394cdd66f4.jpg

Wow, you're lucky to have a Devilgotch! :D I'm glad to see that this issue is only minimal.

Sometimes leakage like this is due to pressure being applied to an LCD, but in that case it's usually localised around a crack or other noticeable damage to the screen. In this case, because of where it's appearing, I'm going to guess that it might just be age-related.

I'm afraid that I don't know anything about if or how it can be fixed - I wish you good luck with finding the answer to that.

i've never seen this before! hmm, again I'm no expert but I suggest looking for tamagotchi fan's who know the tamagotchi's insides and have that kind of experience.. Have you considered calling bandai or someone who may know? if not, why not give it a try.

Ok, I have a new explanation. I think the screen is put in upside down. Its rather hard to notice, but here's a picture of proof:

spacer.png The Tamagotchi Devil Screen looks tilted...

It must have been opened and put together incorrectly, I bought it used long ago.

I think I have to open it and put the screen back in the correct position. I think the side with the round part need to point downwards. I have some experience now, because I had to open up the Angel (reference in the pic above) .

Still very disliking the imagination of opening up some >$300 item..... *shiver*

The LCD "leakage" or what this is seems to have gotten better with the time running it (Probably it healed from all the love^^)

I'm currently trying to get the demonic twins, after that trial, i'll open it up. I currently already have old geezer Oyajidebiru. ^^

Putting it in upside down would cause additional pressure which may have led to a leak. If it's still broken, you can easily replace the lcd with another vintage tama's screen. The icons wouldn't be the same, but the display should work fine.

Here is a guide with pictures:

It would work, but the icons were different. I'd never sacrifice the wicked devil icons, they're so great. 🙂

Devilgotchi surgey was successful! The screen is now right back in, everything works fine.

Btw: Its not very easy to open a Devilgotchi. Unlike normal 90s Tamagotchis, Devils have 4 more extra screws, holding the motherboard in place. That makes it much more difficult.

I just hope the LCD bleed will vanish over time. I think so, but if not, also not a drama.

spacer.pngTrying to get the twins failed. I had Oyajidebiru with high DP, it didnt becme the Girldevil, it became the pumpkin head instead. Maybe try have Oyajidibiru with low DP next time.

Calling Bandai wouldn’t help, it would just escalate the situation further. The Devilgotchis were produced back in Japan 1997, and were recalled because of faulty screws. Unlike the Angelgotchi, (which is much more common to pick up, why I own one!) this is why they are so rare, because of there limited time on shelves. Since being recalled, Bandai discontinued the line and therefor, wouldn’t be able to give any advice to this day.

Now I have seen this a couple of times in advance, even on TamaTalk. There was a form with a Tamagotchi’s damage here, and there may be some comments to help. I have to point out this V2’s LCD leakage is way worse, there being a massive black rip in the screen. Consider yourself lucky with this one!

Another mention, there was a YouTube video with a girl asking about her Gudetama Tamagotchi (which I’ll put here for you to check out) and there still being more leakage. We can take this into account because it seems that this problem has passed down through all of the non-coloured Tamas, reaching up to today. I’m assuming something must have been on top of the girls Tamagotchi, as she says “It was in my bag, I took it out and found it like this” so something heavy (like a mobile phone, purse, etc.) was forcing itself on top.

Anyways, I hope your Tamagotchi can be revived, I’d love to see it!

      Hello, folks!
In spite of easter, I decided a few days ago to run my Usatama in celebration. I went ahead today and removed the old batteries, and popped in the new. I’d done this numerous times before, so I didn’t think anything of it.
As soon as I put the new ones in, the screen was black. All the pixels were filled in (which gave me hope, as that meant the batteries were making contact) apart from a few ‘scrambled’ ones in the top left corner. I took them out immediately, as I didn’t want to damage in device further and permanently damage the screen. When my Dad got back (the one who helps me with all of my Tama-issues)  he tried himself, with more dead pixels in different patterns. He tried resetting, nothing. There were just random pixels on the screen (image attached for reference to what they roughly looked like at the time) with no response from the reset or ABC buttons.
We tried again, this time the clock displaying and the device beeping. As I finally thought it worked, the ‘12’ which was supposed to be on the left side of the screen was.. missing? I tried to click ABC over and over, but it appeared to be frozen. Took them out again, and put them back in. Not expecting much. There was more garbage on the screen and then.. clicking? It sounded like something was going horribly wrong in the battery compartment. It went on clicking until I demanded my Dad to take out the batteries before it completely short-circuited itself.
Since then, it’s been displaying dead pixels on and off, but most of the time nothing at all. The buttons are unresponsive, along with the speaker and reset.
I also want to mention a few things before I get suggested them, as I have already tried most of the Google results provided!
The brand of batteries is Duracel, which is the same brand I used for the batteries previously, along with all of my other virtual pets. I’ve never had any issues with their batteries until now.
While all of this was happening, the battery cover was off, meaning nothing was causing pressure on the batteries or LCD.
I’ve ran this Tamagotchi without any hassle before, this is the first time it has happened.
The batteries and compartment are completely clean and intact.
I’d appreciate it greatly if anyone had any advice or ideas on how to resolve this issue, it would mean a lot to me and my Tama!
      Here is what we are getting on the screen right now (With batteries in). When we take them out, simply nothing is displayed. It was showing completely black before, but it looks similar to this;
You can clearly see faint and darker lines scattered across the screen, but before it was similar to garbage sprites and pixels. Hopefully this gives people a better idea of what i’m dealing with!

I started my tamagotchi devil up last night, waited til today to start a log because I didn't know how to properly upload pictures: special thanks to Penguin-keeper for the help
Started it up and it hatched into a Zukidebitchi

The first night was fairly uneventful, he went to bed at 9pm as per usual.
Then the pranks started. I really need to keep him in a different room because he actually woke me up three times during the night: once at 1am, again at 3am and then finally again at 6am.
He actually woke up at 9am and needed only one food and one game to fill his hearts.
This is him smiling after a game

He asked me for a handshake, I wanted to keep his devil power higher to try for different characters but I actually couldn't say no to that. So after the handshake his devil power went down to 25, then later raised back up to 40 over a few hours. The picture below is what Zukidebitchi looks like when he asks for a handshake, precious. almost makes me forget the triple sleep disruption last night lol

I was going to check his devil power again now but he does not want to let me. I've tried four times and always get him pranking me. Actually kinda funny lol

I bought a Devilgotchi and I tried to remove the screws. (I used a little mechanical oil before) (Of course I used the right screwdriver)
I thought already I had it, but then both screw heads just broke off!!! (They broke very near the screw head)
The screw shafts still remain in the shell and they also don't stick out a little.
      look for yourselves:

      I don't need to say, I'm devastated.
Still I ask you guys, do you think there is a (destruction free) way to remove the screws?

      Prologue/Day 0: June 16, Sunday
I attend Tokyo Toy Show's final public day and check out the Bandai booth, which has all mainline Tamagotchi releases on display, organized chronologically. I see the Devilgotchi, and realize that despite owning an Angel back in the 90's, I know very little about its demonic counterpart.

I am intrigued by the package's promise of late night shenanigans, and look it up on Yahoo! Auctions assuming it can't run for much more than any other used classic era Tama.
      I am horrendously mistaken.
This toy is WAY too expensive for frivolous curiosity!
Why do I want one, anyway? It's no secret I'm stressed about an upcoming interview, and looking for any way to distract myself from anxiety. Sure, I could just pop some fresh LR-44s in any of my P1s or 2s and call it a day, but if I'm gonna impulsively raise a Tamagotchi for the first time in 5 years or so, I want something new, darn it!
Late night, I do more research to try and learn more about the Devilgotchi, see if there's another way to play. Then, I discover the old 2006 Tamagotchi Monster APK...
Now, I'm not usually one for installing questionable software on my phone, but if I'm gonna do something weird, what better than a digital devil alien from yesteryear? I install the APK and bridge software that allows me to run the ancient app on my Galaxy S9, and around 2:30 AM, DeviZukitchi is spawned from the depths of the Tamagotchi underworld...and promptly hits the hay.

      Fair enough.
