You have the ninja family because , though you fed , they're happy hearts were neglected. The ninja family are considered 'bad' characters. You can change them back by feeding them a steamed bun or having them play with the whistle. After doing one of these two things , they should evolve back...

This is definitely normal. Sometimes you catch a can , sometimes you catch some points , and sometimes you catch a big fish ( like you did ). However , when you catch the big fish , it will not appear in your items , souvenir , etc. And as I know , it doesn't affect the hungry and happy hearts...
