Jai watched the dog, and quickly retracted his hands and placed them on the ground when he heard the low growl of the animal. However, it soon became curious, and went quiet, moving to sit. He couldn't help but give a weak chuckle when the animal placed a large and comical look upon its face. Even in this poor situation, the dog seemed to lighten it a bit. Slowly, and efficiently, and put his arms under the crook of the girls knees and under her neck. Getting a grip on her shoulder and knee, and supporting her head as much as he could, he lifted her easily. He looked to the dog, and motioned for it to follow. Moving at a quick pace, he set out for his shelter.

Upon entering the store, he had to put the girl down momentarily to pull down the attic ladder. Picking her back up again - but this time slinging her over his shoulder so he could get up the ladder easier - he climbed up and put her inside, her legs dangling outside of the attic's entrance. He would situate her better once the dog was inside as well. Climbing back down he went to the dog. Giving her a nice pet on the head. He walked over to the ladder, and since the steps were flat and not at a steep angle, he figured it would be easy for the animal to climb up. He motioned his hand for the animal to walk up.

"Go on," he said, "just go ahead and climb up." He finished, waiting for the animal's reaction.

Charlotte licked the boys hand with her big pink tongue, and scaled the ladder with relative ease. However, despite the flat steps, as a dog she was naturally an awkward climber. Thus she appeared anything but graceful.

Once reaching the attic, Charlotte stumbled in and sniffed around curiously, her moist black nose snuffling and snorting. After a couple of minutes, she sneezed upon encountering an irritating dust bunny, discouraging her from exploring any further at the moment. Prancing back over to her owner, Charlotte nudged the girl's neck with her snout, whimpering with worry.

As he had predicted, the tension between the two of them had not decreased in the slightest. If anything, it had ramped up. Still Devan appeared calm, mainly because he was forcing himself to. If he went to pieces, he could be easily overpowered. Who knows, perhaps being exposed to the apocalypse had made him even tougher. He had to be, for both his and his sister's sake. Shifting his weight slightly, Devan cast an eye over the girl. She seemed to have pulled herself together now - well, her muscles had relaxed, a least. Well, he forgave her for being a little nervous - he had practically snuck up on her, after all.

"Mm... practically since the beginning. Of course we've moved around a little bit, but we've always come back here.. A pause, before Devan began silently cursing himself for using the word 'we'. He had intended to keep Diana out of this; keep her an unknown factor for as long as he felt the situation could be unsafe. Still, this girl seemed human enough. The fact she was smirking at him was enough to swing it. Sighing, Devan relaxed and straightened up the tinest bit, but his finger remained on the trigger. "Yeah, me and my sister have been staying in the store. Above ground." A small laugh. "It's slightly hard to explain, but we're surviving." A pause. "What's your name?"

Cinder immediately cursed when she heard how long he had been here. She was mad at herself, for not noticing others. But she couldn't be mad at herself, everyone was in the middle of apocalypse. The word 'we' peaked her attention and she gave him a new look, a look of question, curiosity. Interest. His sister, eh? She nodded and listened as he spoke, careful not to reveal too much information - it seemed. Seeing as how he was mad at himself earlier by slipping 'we'. She watched his fingers carefully, how they held the trigger and the gun stayed pointed. Just how her knife stayed aimed at him. It was obvious that if a fight happened, the gun would win, simply because Cinder was fast - but not fast enough to dodge a bullet. She gave him a smile in return, quickly and efficiently changing her grip on the knife, turning it in her hand with quick movements.

"Cinder." She said, her response quick and to the point. There wasn't much to it, no emotion, her voice flat and only providing the answer to his question. She wanted to learn more, about this silent person whom had been able to evade her sight. She took a small step forward, then looked at him. "And you? What's your name?" She asked, her voice showing curiosity and want - she wanted to learn who he was. His strategy, tactics, his plan.

------------------------------------

Jai watched the dog clumsily climb up the steps, and once inside, he followed shortly after. Climbing up, however, at around the third to top step, he reached up a bit and pushed the girl into the room better so her legs were no longer dangling. Finishing the climb, he reached down and pulled up the ladder, shutting the attic door as the stairs collapsed neatly onto it. He turned to the dog, watching it with admiring eyes. Jai always admired animals, how much emotion they could hold and how they weren't afraid to show it. If they were worried, sad, angry, happy, you knew it. They told you - in their own way, just how they felt.

He went over to the girl, laying her out. Looking at the dog he inched back, allowing the animal to sit with it's owner. Jai didn't have anything to make the girl wak up, so he decided to wait until she did. Occupying himself with keeping watch outside the window.

Something warm...something warm and fuzzy...

Adrian smiled in her sleep, nuzzling her face into the source of comfort that was pressed up against her. Slowly, as her grogginess wore off, Adrian became more and more awake and alert. She noticed the fuzzy warmth was breathing...no, after listening she could tell it was panting. A dog's panting...

Adrian sat up suddenly with a gasp as the past events came rushing back into her memory. Her eyes grew watery, and she gratefully flung her arms around Charlotte, wailing. "Ohhh, Charlotte! Good girl, VERY good girl. I love you so much..." She buried her tearful face in the Bouvier's black fur, completely oblivious to her current surroundings. After all, she had come dangerously close to being zombie-dog food.
