Ugh ! I heard this song called "Beds are Burning" but I cant figure out the meaning !!

I think it is either Fairness, or taking land away. What do you think ,whyy?

This is bugggginngg me :furawatchi:

Out where the river broke

The bloodwood and the desert oak

Holden wrecks and boiling diesels

Steam in forty five degrees

The time has come

To say fairs fair

To pay the rent

To pay our share

The time has come

A facts a fact

It belongs to them

Lets give it back

How can we dance when our earth is turning

How do we sleep when our beds are burning

Four wheels scare the cockatoos

From kintore east to yuendemu

The western desert lives and breathes

In forty five degrees

The time has come

A facts a fact

It belongs to us all

Lets give it back

Theres the lyrics ^

Yeah, I was thinking that too, until

It belongs to them

Lets give it back

It makes me think of the people taking away the land they promised to the Aboriginals , which made me think Fairness or Taking Land Away ?

And then

The whole "boling diesels'' and ''four wheels scare the cockatoos" made me think of being fair/taking land away from the environment/animals type thing.

Yeah sure [ : If linking means giving you a link to the song xP

"It belongs to them, Let's get it back."

Hrmmm.

I'm not sure...

"Four wheels scare the Cockatoos."

=

Machines are driving out wildlife?

Possibly.

Like cars, factories, etc.

^ yeah, thats what I was thinking, like with the whole 'Taking Away Land' idea.

Hmm, it sure does have a powerful message, but its just .. hidden? ^_^

Sorry for the double post-

I know this isn't a terribly interesting topic; but I'd really like your opinion, its been bothering me for days now.[:

Oh, is it that old song?

Is too lazy to clicketh apon the linketh.

Does it go;

"How can we sleep while our beds are burning"

I fricking love that song.

That's the main line of the song, in my head.

How can we sleep...

Like, how can we wait around.

While our beds are burining...

well, sleeping.

In beds.

Burning.

So I think it means "How can we wait around though we know we're dying?"

Or...

How can we let this happen.

How can YOU let this happen.

When you know it's killing me.

Or;

How can we watch the world fall down around us.

Yeah.

I think that's my answer.

I love that song.

It sounds like it might mean something about global warming.

Pay the rent/share in the sense that we need to give back to the Earth for what we've done to it.

Like others mentioned, the diesels and four wheels scaring/killing off the wildlife.

It belongs to them, them being the wildlife.

Earth is turning/Beds burning, maybe something like the Earth is dying, so how can people sleep and not do anything. I'm trying to find an example without sounding ridiculous.

Like.. The Earth being a natural bed that's burning up to nothing. So in a sense, the bed that's mentioned would really be the Earth.

Just my thoughts xP

Out where the river broke-

The bloodwood and the desert oak-

Holden wrecks and boiling diesels- Burning fuel? Atmosphere? Killing the Earth?

Steam in forty five degrees- Air Pollution. (Factories)

The time has come

To say fairs fair

To pay the rent

To pay our share- These go together. It's time that we start taking care of the Earth (We live here, we have to pay 'rent' or our share of 'money' to help keep it alive.)

The time has come

A facts a fact

It belongs to them

Lets give it back- We are taking the Earth's natural inhabitants (Animals) food, water, land... build it up, give it back.

How can we dance when our earth is turning

How do we sleep when our beds are burning- I agree here, like, how can we do daily things, and not worry about stuff like this? Stuff that can, ultimately, kill us later?

Four wheels scare the cockatoos

From kintore east to yuendemu

The western desert lives and breathes

In forty five degrees

The time has come

A facts a fact

It belongs to us all

Lets give it back- "Four wheels scare the cackatoos" Driving them out.

So, there's my interpretation.

It's actually a song about how the white people took land away from the Australian Aboriginal people. Many people tried to stand up for fairness and justice and telling the Australian Government to apologise to the descendants of the Stolen Generation. The lyrics 'cockatoo' 'western desert' and the place names 'Kintore East' and 'Yuendemu' indicates the purpose of the song.
