Okay so I have this little prayer book called The Pieta Prayers made by Saint Bridgette. You pray one prayer plus I think 15 Hail Mary's, 15 Our Father's and 15 Glory Be's daily for a year. If you do this, these are the 20 promises you will recieve (they are written in the book):

1. He will deliver 15 souls of your lineage from Purgatory.

2. 15 souls of your lineage will be confirmed and preserved in grace.

3. 15 sinners of your lineage will be converted.

4. Whoever recites these Prayers will attain the first degree of perfection.

5. 15 days before your death, you will feel a deep contrition for all your sins and will have a perfect knowledge of them.

6. He will place before you the sign of His Victorious Cross for your help and defence against the attacks of your enemies.

7. Before your death, He shall come with My Dearest Beloved Mother.

8. He will graciously recieve your soul, and will lead it into eternal joys.

9. And having lead it there He shall give you a special draught from the fountain of My Deity, something He will not for those who have not recited His Prayers.

10. Whoever may have been living in a state of mortal sin for 30 years, but who will recite devoutly, or have the intention to recite these Prayers, the Lord will forgive you all your sins.

11. He shall protect you from strong temptations.

12. He shall preserve and gaurd your 5 senses.

13. He shall preserve you from a sudden death.

14. Your soul will be delivered from eternal death.

15. You will obtain all you ask for from God and the Blessed Virgin.

16. If you have lived all your life ding your own will and you are to die the next day, your life will be prolonged.

17. Every time you recite these Prayers, you gain 100 days indulgence.

18. You are assured of being joined to the supreme Choir of Angels.

19. Whoever teaches these Prayers to another will have continuous joy and merit will endure eternally.

20. There where these Prayers are being said or will be said in the future God is present with His grace.

I don't really know what some of these promises mean, but they still sound pretty intense lol! I am going to start these Prayers soon and I hope you do to. They are available in pretty much all the church supply stores and are only like 75 cents to 2 dollars. So what do you think of all these beautiful promises?

Biblical back up, please.

Personaly, I don't believe that stuff. I believe in prayer, but not these specific prayers- it's not "converting" anyone and saving people from purgatory [i don't believe in purgatory anyway] and why pray to Mary?! I hope this doesn't sound harsh, but she was human too, she can't do anything for us.

When were these things even written? If there's no Biblical back up, I won't buy into it. :/

I think you will find that these prayers and the prayer book were written more particularly for those Christians who are Catholics (as opposed to Christians who are Protestants, etc.) :)

Not all Christian churches use "Hail Mary", "Our Father" or "Glory Be" in their prayers / worship of God, nor do all of them believe in purgatory or revere the Virgin Mary, mother of God, to the same extent that Catholics do :)

Having said that, it was nice of you to share and spread the information and hopefully you have learned something interesting too - not all Christians believe in exactly the same details and there are different versions / interpretations of the Bible :)

Of course. :]

I just want to understand why, though. It's so foreign and odd to me.

Agreed, If you look in the bible, The lords pray says nothing about praying a certain amout of prars. Over all, the bible says he will bless you when you ask for a belssing! :)

Yes that is true, but He gave St. Bridgette these prayers personaly. It's not like she just magically came up with all those promises and prayers. I'm not trying to disproove your theory or anyting, but I am just stating why I believe in these prayers.

Now tamaw/pants, why Catholics pray to Mary is because She has been known to actually work miracles, so yes she can help us. I mean, She was born without original sin, Her entire body ascended into heaven (I believe that is in the Bible but I could be wrong...) which means She actually never died, and there have been countless miracles involving the seeing of Mary in visions, one particulary famous one is Our Lady Of Guadalupe. For more information on this story, click here.

I've never heard that she was without sin and there was only one person taken up to heavan mentioned in the Bible and that was either Alsha or Alijah [not sure which one, sorry for spelling].
