Chapter 3, “The Prophegotchi”

It was moist; moist and very considerably the most uncomfortable that he had ever been. Alex struggled for a moment with opening his eyes to see just why he was so moist and uncomfortable. It was much brighter than he had expected and immediately closed them while jetting his hands up to give them a good rub. He tried once more to see where he was, but was immediately puzzled. There was dense foliage and lots of green vegetation. This wasn’t his room, the place where he was sure he had fallen asleep and dreamt all that nonsense about floating mysteriously skyward, but some sort of rich earthy forestland thick with the smell of wet soil. Suddenly, stabbing, pain from all over his body presented itself. He cringed, moaned, and twisted himself into an almost fetal position trying to get the immense pain to cease; finally, moments later it slowly faded away- his body’s natural pain killers jumping into effect. His whole body still slightly ached in a way to suggested to him that he had fallen a long way onto whatever this odd cushion beneath him was. It was then that he realized that he was lying in some sort of a flat shrubbery very close to the ground. He thrashed about and tried to straighten himself up so he could stand. Once he was free from the plant he fell to ground and sat cross-legged, bewildered and stunned, trying to make sense of things in his mind. From what he had remembered, he had been sleeping when he awoke suddenly without reason only to discover that strange message on his tamagotchi. He then illogically rose higher into the air, through his ceiling, up through the attic, into the sky, and blacked out.

“Impossible,” he spat out, his voice shaky and uncertain. “J- Just impossible!”

He looked around, trying to find something that made sense. There was nothing; Just forest. After a moment of fruitless scanning he decided that it would be best not to sit in the middle of an unfamiliar area like this in case some sort of predatory animal showed up to greet him. He got up, brushed himself off, and began to walk while trying to figure out which way would be more promising. Deciding to just head straight forward from where he was, he moved with a quick pace. He had wanted to jog or sprint to try and se if he could get free from this place faster, but he had no idea if he would need to run later or how much forest lie ahead of him and he didn’t want to waste energy.

He walked for several hours only stopping every once and a while to break a twig or pile a couple stones behind him so that he could make sure he wasn’t walking in a circle. Finally his feet began to feel tingly and his toes especially felt as though they were trying to summon blisters. He stopped and sat down on the bare dirt with his back against a giant tree. He wanted to say that it was an overgrown oak tree, but the strange thing about this place was that all of the plants seemed to be different than anything he had ever seen, but slightly familiar to other plants and trees he knew. Alex was also starting to feel hungry and extremely thirsty. He wondered how much father he would need to go before he was out of this place, maybe find a pay phone or a restaurant, or at least a road where he could hitch a ride. Alex rested his hand on his leg, when to his surprise he noticed something odd about his pocket. There was the outline of something that was in it. He straightened his body then thrust his hand into his pocket and grabbed the object. “AWESOME,” his smooth black cell phone had been in there the whole time. “Well, how incredible stupid of me,” he continued. He started to feel his face turn red with a bit of embarrassment. Alex then flipped the phone open only to be completely crushed… no signal and only one bar left of battery. “Errrgh!” he exclaimed then clapped his phone shut with a fury. He tossed it on the ground next to him and sighed deeply, “This is some day isn’t it…”

His attention was soon grabbed entirely by the sound of leaves rustling in just about every direction. He shot worried glances frantically around. There were things rushing toward him, numerous creatures all running right for him. He quickly struggled to his feet and was going to attempt to flee, but every in direction the creatures advanced toward him. In an instant he was able to see what they were, small two-legged creatures all holding metallic spears. Something was extremely familiar about them, it bothered Alex. In fact, it bothered him quite a lot. “These things,” Alex thought. “They l-look like… like Kuchipatchis!”

Completely surrounded and with them only feet away they stopped and pointed their spears. One of them, a little larger than the rest and wearing a helmet of sorts, stepped forward closer to him and put his spear inches away from Alex’s neck. It looked at him with fiery angry eyes and said harshly in a most unpleasant voice, “It would be most wise if you didn’t move.
