at my school, we can bring tamas but can't play with them. But I use them after i lock myself in a bathroom stall so i can take care of them. i haven't ever really followed rules, and haven't ever really gotten caught. 
But don't worry, i'll follow rules here, so you guys are happier. like, i wouldn't wanna offend you ppls.
