Hello there! This is my first post on this forum, and it may or may not be my last; I just need some advice from experienced Tamagotchi owners such as the people found here! ( ^ つ ^)ノ

I have been studying Japanese for exactly one year now, and on June 24th it will be my anniversary. (I know, celebrating a language lesson? Dorky.) However, I do believe it is an achievement that deserves a small reward. Mt teacher says that I am doing extremely well, and I know enough Japanese to travel to Japan, speak to native Japanese people, etc. This means that I can also play Japanese games! So, I thought I would reward myself with a Tamagotchi pet. I had one Tamagotchi when I was younger, but now that I'm older and now a bit of Japanese, I'd love to have a Japanese version!

The question- which one??

I hadn't realized how many versions came out after the 90's originals, and I hadn't even known that Bandai was still making them for Japanese! I have a budget of about 50.00$ and I want to get the best for my money. I'm looking for ONLY Japanese tamas, ones in color, and the ones that not only have the most features, but are the most enjoyable to play. (Also maybe if there's an option to get a pink one; that would be a bonus!)

Thanks for your help!!

Hello.

I have not much experience with the "new color tamagotchis", I happened like you (I was stuck in the 90's).

After much research, I decided on the P's (IDL although I really like too, but it is simpler).

Both bring options not had the 90's: clothing, pets, garden, weddings, downloadable objects (infrared), wallpaper, travel, etc.

The P's, in my opinion, is the most complete and entertaining. It comes in Japanese and has a pink model. You do not need any deco pierce to enjoy the tamagotchi, as I read it happened in other models.

The 4u, despite being the most modern, is not my favorite, because it is not very demanding (which was released for public busy xD), which, in my opinion, it gets boring (also includes only 8 characters... compared to 32 including P's and IDL, although in both, to unlock four characters need one second tamagotchi. 28 characters are still many! And more if you decide to use deco pierces).

Anyway, the P's includes kindergarten, school and work for a few hours in the morning (although lower their needs).

PD: Happy Japanese-anniversary!
PD2: Sorry for my bad English :p

Yeah, I'd definitely recommend a P's as well.

With your budget you can get an IDL, P's or 4u brand new and still have change.

The 4u can be quite limited if you don't have access to the downloads. Also, there's no real aim to it. Getting all the characters on the IDL and P's unlocks more travel destinations keeping it interesting as you go along.

Amazon has the P's at quite cheap prices now. Even some of the sets are in your price range so you'd get a Pierce in your budget. This set for example is under $50, Japanese, brand new, entertaining, comes with a pierce and whilst the front is yellow it has a pink base so may well be worth a look ☺

Oh wow, okay! Thank you both for your help! Tamagotchi P it is then (❁´◡`❁)

If you're planning to buy lots of pierces, it would probably cost you more than $100 excluding the tamagotchi, so it would probably be better to get the 4u since it has loads of downloadable content *but* only if you have an android phone with nfc.

Only certain Android phones have the right kind of NFC. Even then the 4u doesn't become amazingly interesting. There's still much more to do with the P's built in content than there is with the 4u's downloads.

Sure, you can get downloadable games and wallpapers but other than characters Mr Blinky has made most of the 4u downloads available for the P's as well if you buy an old infrared phone ($10 vs $200 for an NFC device). Even then with the P's you don't have to have the downloads to keep it interesting.

It's all personal opinion but even if you had a Nexus 7 or one of the few compatible phones I'd still choose the P's as you requested something enjoyable and with the P's unlockable content it remains a fun tama as well as having a game element to it :)

I agreee with weseley_13j. The 4U doesn't become much more interesting with the app. I will still go for the P's if I were you. You don't have to spend your money on pierces, but it will be good to invest on a Nokia/used phone with infrared. They do make the P's much more fun :D

Good luck and congrats! I want to learn Japanese too :D

PS/ I hope you will continue your stay in TamaTalk! :D

Ah okay. Thanks again everyone! I did some research on the 4U and I know it doesn't nearly have as much as the P regarding content, unless you download things. I don't even have a compatible phone, so that would be kind of inconvenient for me  I plan to buy some pierces in the future anyways, so probably P is the best option.
