my tamagotchi is an adult for about 1 week and its saying he's still1 years old!!!!!!!!! he doesnt even have a job and he cant use some items.

What character is your tamagotchi at the moment? ... are you sure it's definatly an adult?

If it can't use items that only adults can use, or it can't get a job yet, the only thing I can think of is that it isn't actually an adult

What version is your tamagotchi?

Like Gemma-x said, are you 100% sure that it is an adult? Also, if you pause your Tama a lot, it will slow down the growth process.

Hmm... V4 Tama characters should be at least 2 years old before evolving into adults. You probably have a glitch. And when you said that your Tama can't use some items, do you mean that it looks at the item with a question mark above its head? Those items require another certain item to use. You will need to have a mirror in your item list to be able to use make-up, and a stereo to use a CD.
