How do I use items?

Dear Friends,

I have purchased several items for my UFOtchi, such as a shovel, darts, and a stuffed animal. How can I get my UFOtchi to play with them? Do I have to wait until my tama grows up completely? I can't help thinking that my "teen" tama would play with a stuffed toy.

In the event that I have to wait, how do I access items once my tama is full grown?
