I don't mind doing a 5K but my running group is thinking about joining a 10K and I really don't like them.
Well, it's okay to hate a certain race distance. You don't have to do a 10k unless you absolutely wanna. Since a 10k is 6.2 miles compared to the 3.1 of a 5k, you may wanna think about your fitness first, and see if you can make it at least 6 miles at an easy pace, possibly combining a good pace and some walking or easy jogging the whole way if you have to. Either way, it's up to you. If you don't want to do a 10k, then don't do it. You're not required to do it, so you can opt out if you wanna. But if I were you, I'd go for the 10k to improve fitness. You'll be able to run longer, think about it.I don't mind doing a 5K but my running group is thinking about joining a 10K and I really don't like them.
