Jobs yield the same skill point that are required to get them. You need to play games and such so you can gain enough skill points to get the job (and character) you desire. If you want intelligence points, I'd recommend playing SHAPE and selecting Mr Turtle as your teacher in the teen years. Depending on what your skill point forte is, you'll be more successful at job interviews that are demanding in that area.
