If you want the (flower) skill points to go up, just play the game flag. It's pretty easy and when you beat it, you get a good 10 or 11 points gained. Just keep playing flag and never playing jump rope, mimic, or shapes, that way you know your only gaining the (flower) skill points.
I'm not sure if this will work but it's worth a try.
