How do you get them?

What are each of the different symbols mean? I've heard them referred to as intelligence, social and style. If so, how does one go about getting each one?

How do they affect the Tamagotchi's growth?

And finally,

is it a scam if there is a website where the codes for Tamatown gifts can be created? I found one earlier, but felt reluctent to try it in case it would mess my beloved Tama up...

I'd appreciate any help!
