I sometimes look at TV and see this commerical for V5 tamagotchi. in that commercial I would see something like a dog, but I'm not sure if you can really get one cause I' not used to V5 (I used to play V3). If you can get a dog, how do you get it

Yes there are pets. You get them when you get a pure family here is a chart that could help.

If you assemble a pure-bred family (which is not possible on the first generation,) they will have a pet. The pet appears on-screen only during certain screen-saver animations, or sometimes during the C-button reaction animation.
