I have seen a total of three dead tamagotchi connection characters starting to live again after dying.

One v2 when I was about 9 years old, and now recently two v4's, and I think I noticed a pattern.

All three of them went out of battery while being dead; aka while the wing egg hovered up and down on the screen.

When the battery had gone out, it was not only the normal "battery out screen", but they had been left untouched for so long that they were completely out of battery, meaning that the screen had gone all blank.

After putting in a new battery and pushing "download" the three characters have all been alive again, although sick and dying still saveable.

I'm in the middle of trying this theory out, and I will post the results here.

If anyone else has got information on the topic, I'd be glad to read it, so let the discussion begin!

If this phenomenon is already known and tested, I apologise. I did search tamatalk for it but found nothing. Not even a topic asking if it's possible at all to get back a dead tamagotchi, so here I am, starting this topic...

I think that this is a pretty common occurrence, provided that the Tamagotchi's last "save point" was the state that the character is sick/dying. Choosing Download simply "rolls back" to that latest save point.

It's similar to pushing the reset button and choosing download.

However, if the Tamagotchi's "save point" was the dead state, choosing Download may not be very helpful.

Resetting and coosing download never worked for me as the tamagotchi saves the data when your character dies. I've tried it numerous times but it hasn't worked ever.

However it seems to me like if you keep a battery inside until it dies, the latest saved data will be deleted...? I'll need help to verify this theory though.

Close to dying then resetting and downloading helped me. :/ You might have pushed it too late, which wouldn't make it work.
Yes, but when it's already dead I've never heard of anyone suceeding in getting the tama back... Or is it someone here who can give me info on how?

I'm still trying my theory out btw.(Meaning the inserted battery has yet to run out completely).

I think you're not really supposed to bring them back. It takes away the challenge. ;)
True.

I have actually had the thought before, but I had a pretty creepy nightmare about two weeks ago about one of my v2's that died. It was a Nikatchi girl namned toxic(after the venomous-looking shell design :p )

I decided to try and bring her back, but even if I succeed, it won't become a habit. :)

It's haunting you for not taking care of it properly, LOL just kidding :p

Actually it kinda was in my dream... o_O

In the dream, I was standing in my room with the tama in my hands. It was night time, and a crescent moon was casting it's white light through the window.

Suddenly when the moonlight reached the tama, on the screen I could see Toxic sleeping, and then she would go back to the wing egg. Sleeping agin... Wing egg... The animation changed, and she was suddenly standing up, wide awake and furious with me.

That's scary

Also, do you think your theory would work on vintage tamas? Because I have my Angelgotchi working now, and they always end up dying, so...yeah

It won't. The vintage Tamagotchis do not "save" data, so if either they die or got their batteries drained, you'll have to hatch a new one.

Sadly Ichiro is right.

So far I've only got results from v4's and one v2, but I'm not sure if it'd always work or not...

Well I have tested it with my v3 and sadly it hasn't worked. The character had died and the battery had completely died. I put a new one in and selected download but It just shows the wing. I guess maybe it's just a coincidence that it didn't work for me maybe? :D aha I'll have to try it out again when I let one of them die! :)

I don't know myself really, but it's cool that you're testing it out! :D

I've just tried it with my V2, it also hasn't worked. Hmm, this is really interesting why it has worked for you but not for me. Are you using a Tamagotchi Connection? It might not be working for me because I am using Connexions, although I don't think that would make a difference. I'll try it out with my V4, and some other versions when they die! :)

I tried it out with my V4. Nope, it didn't work. Plus -- I did it as quickly as possible. Strange.

I did it, but differently. My brother's V4 had died, and he asked me if I could get it back to life, and I said I'd try. I just took the battery out, put it back in and downloaded the character. It was perfectly healthy.

However, this happened to the same V4 later on, but I couldn't do it that time. Maybe it had been dead for too long or something? I'm not sure.
