Can a male Tamagotchi care for a child or can only females do that?

Both male and females tamagotchis can become parents. 
It doesn't matter if your tama is a guy or a girl, the matchmaker will come to both and will leave you with a little baby for 24 hours (roughly).
If you mate two tamagotchis together, one will have to be male and the other female. Both tams will get a baby each! Tamagotchi Dads are quite versatile!
