Use the A button to highlight the check meter (the first icon) and the B button to select it. Here you can view your Tamagotchi's health, as well as some interesting things. Use the A or B button to flick through the different screens.
When you get to a screen that shows a face, a sparkle and a fist, this is the skill points screen. The face is humour, the sparkle is gorgeousness and the fist is passion. The numbers show how funny/gorgeous/passionate your Tamagotchi is.
The difference in skill points is this: v4 has intelligence/style/kindness while v4.5 has humour/gorgeousness/passion.
