Tamagotchi On freezing while connecting

So my tamagotchi On has been freezing when trying to connect to the app.
I either have to pull the batteries or hit the reset button.
Is the Bluetooth burnt out? Any tips? The only thing I haven't done is a full reset.

And if you're using rechargeables, give them a top-up - with NiMH ones, the voltage drops off sooner than that of single-use batteries, which wouldn't be helpful when trying to use Bluetooth.

Topped off batteries, even did a refresh on the batteries and it still freezes. I'm gonna grab some regular non rechargeable kind and try again but I don't have much confidence.
