Tamagotchi will not eat food

I just got my TamaTown Tama-Go. I tried to feed it, but the only food that I appear to have is pork and beans and he won't eat it. When I select it he shakes his head. He also won't eat the only snack I have, milk.

Am I doing it wrong? I want to have a fun toy, but I don't want it to be hungry.

Your pet is too full. Play some games with it and it'll let you feed it. =)

It has 5 empty hearts in Hungry and Happy. I had thought that empty hearts meant it needed those needs met.

It keeps beeping like constantly, though.

If she's hungry but refuses to eat, discipline her, and try again to feed her.

If I press the discipline button it only beeps and there's no screen animation and it doesn't take me to a menu. I don't know if I'm doing it right.
