i think thats because... well... you don't play on it often enuff...
I mean you pause it for a long time during the day...
you know what I do so it can get older?
once it falls asleep, just keep it there, dont pause it and when you get up in the morning, pause it. you know when your tama wakes up dont you?

adjust the time back a little. like if its 10:00, adjust it to 8:00 (or whenever it falls asleep) and if your tama wakes up at 9:00, it willl wake up at 12!
against time adjusting?
well... wake up early!
you have to do it about 2 times in order for it to get 1 yrs older i think...
nothing will happen to it when its asleep fyi.
