Yes, it will. Weight count is actually one of the most important factors in a growth cycle. If it is too high, your Tama will die within days.

Ive never had a tama-go die and I lose them for days at a time , I just find them really hungry and unhapy and sick and poopy

My tamagotchi from a teen has weighed at least 60 lbs. Usually more(72-99). I've never gotten a "bad" character.

From my experience, I'd say no.

Once they hit 99/100 they become bloated and you have to go to the medicine option. It then poos it's weight back down to 72.
