What are the pencils?

What do the pencils do? ive tried to figure it out and i cant. please help.

Well, whenever u use one, it makes your tamagotchi make a picture or a phrase..like on the v4, Mametchi writes "don't mind"...I love that one!...hope I helped!-"Off off and away!"
