Well my batteries haven't ran out so here's some tips how to not make your battery run out.

1. Turn the sound off when he's asleep

2. Don't pause him unless it's an emergency

3. When your changing the battery if it does need changed, be careful taking the battery out, because if you scratch the inside of your tamagotchi which is underneath the battery then your tamagotchi won't work.

Well, Rok'in mostly answered your question . But from my experience, mine took about a year and a half for the batteries to run out.
