it had the sick sign on it and it was a toddler and was in the middel of the screen

I agree. Usually there is nothing you can do when your tama is about to die...you can't press any buttons or anything. Your tama would be standing in the middle of the screen, looking like he/she's in pain or sad with the sick skull over its head. Sorry about that...better luck next time!

Oh yeah, I've heard that resetting really quickly and downloading your tama would help save it! :furawatchi:
