I only got to 9th on my v3 before I got frustrated at it.

You are asking what does the history menu do?

It means if your tamagotchi did not survive in your care,it will return to the tamagotchi planet.

And then you need to reset and all your gp,items,friends list,all are gone.

And when you resettted,you go to the history menu and you will see the tamagotchi tat did not survive in your care.
