Well, Tamagotchis started when this

girl was lonely and wanted someone to be with her.

Yea, they do it for the money.

I think they did it for money (well duh) and for those kids who cant get pets. (allergies, financial troubles, etc)

But I have two gerbils, a hamster, and a cat. I think I got one because I want every animal on the planet.
