!Note: I know there is a topic titled "Videos" out in SNTT, but this is not like that. This is for the disscusion of YouTube.

I know a LOT of you use YouTube. I do too, for seeing the tamagotchi anime, and other stuffs like that.

However, there is a lot of innapropriate content on there, such as bad language (no I don't mean Eastern Dragonish.) and the like.

Surely there should be rules about things like that? What we need is a TeenYouTube or something, and all the innapropriate YouTube vids cannot be watched unless you have signed up at the website and are like over 18, that would be better.

So whats your opinion on it? Do you think they should do something?

That's a good idea, but it is very easy to sign up and claim you are over 18. There is no stopping anybody from watching inappropriate content. And really, there's a no porn rule on YouTube anyway, so things don't get that inappropriate.

Besides, isn't it the viewers choice if they watch videos with bad language and such?

I don't think there's much of a problem. As tamacrazy said, if you don't want to watch any inappropriate videos, don't look them up.

The only thing I may suggest is that Youtube could add a marker that shows up next to a video if inappropriate language is used, that way it is obvious that the video harnesses that content to those who shy away from it. They have a blocker on videos so users under eighteen can't see the video, but as tamacrazy said, many people lie about their age on the Internet.

And there isn't any porn on Youtube. They have a whole seperate site for that - Porntube. I was redirected there before, and trust me, it isn't somewhere you want to check out. :|

There's already a bit of a filter. On certain videos they require you be 18+ to watch. Nothing too racy, but yeah.

That's actually why my account says I'm 20 and not 19 XD I was 17 when I signed up and sick of all the, 'you must be 18 blah blah blah' warnings.

There's no way to completely filter 18+ from kids. On the internet kids can easily just lie, and nobody can prove otherwise. Even if there was a stronger filter on youtube, it wouldn't really matter.

Well, YouTube does require you to verify that you are over 18 by creating an account before you watch videos that are "mature."

But lie SK said, you can easily lie about you age, anyhow. And nobody will know your actual age unless you tell them. So there really isn't a totally effective way to keep kids off of YouTube. Most people my age probably would still watch videos even if their parents told them not to, to be honest.

Erm, what's the big deal?

Don't click on the innapropriate stuff if you don't like it.

The site wasn't made for kids, so it doesn't need to change it's rules.

And most people probably don't mind cussing because, well, most people probably cuss themselves.

I think Youtube is fine as it is.

I really do not see the big deal. They already have what you are claiming, it's called flagging a video. Anyone can do it, and it can be flagged for the reasons you are claiming and others such as bullying, sexual content, and etc. I do not like your idea. YouTube is a place for people of all ages to express themselves. If a child is too young to be witnessing such videos why do their parents allow them on it? Plus why would a child be finding such content? Is a child going to randomly look up porn or something? I don't think so. Plus you forget too easily that adults go on YouTube as well. I'd be pretty ticked off if I was an adult and my video got flagged for a few swear words because a 7 year old is watching a video that's too mature for their age group. So no, I don't agree with your idea.

Actually there is porn on youtube x.x I've looked at someone's channel and they had porn videos, so usually there are some people who get through that rule and put porn there anyway X_X

YouTube itself is supposed to be TeenYouTube. It's just more and more little people go on it these days...

But what I am trying to say is that there are a LOT of porn/swear/bullying/gory videos that you can watch if you aren't a member of the site. My brother said he had come across a video that said the f-word in it, and he wasn't even a member of the site.

For kids, they should have very strict filters, because people like my brother go on YouTube, and learn some really bad stuff. Like a lot of videos like "YouTube Poop," "Censored," and those abridged series. He asks me constantly for more info on inappropriate series, then he goes and watches them. I refuse to tell him, so he goes and finds them on his own.

YouTube IS a site for teenagers, and I think you should need an account to watch videos, and they should make a site of YouTube just for kids, where they'd moderate very heavily.

Nah, not really. I have come across stuff like that, but really, if you have a problem with youtube, there are lots of other ways to get music, and stuff like that. I don't want this to sound mean or anything, but I don't like the idea, and it's sorta like wanting to do something about google, or every website with things like that. Seriously, I have seen websites a lot worse than youtube when I got the url wrong, and i know my friends have too. I mean, this may sound weird, but there are creeps, and if they don't find what they want on the internet, then they may look off of the internet.

The f word? You're ten times as likely to hear it in school, or out on the street than on youtube. [Not an actual fact, do not blame me]

But who cares?

People can get to porn sites with a click these days.

The f word is hardly anything compared to the real world, honey.

But a bunch of people unable to handle life? Why should that be censored? You've gotta learn it somewhere, and the internet is actually safer.*

* - Compared to going on the street and asking someone what the f word means? Rest in peace, my friend, rest in peace.

Thats EXACTLY what my brother does. He watches the "YouTube Poop" vids, which are pretty bad. And I don't go to school. And I don't live in america. So things are diffrent here. Its not going to be good if everyone is a "gansta" who swears all the time, is it? =/

Some of the videos on there are ridiculous. :p

I hardly ever go there. I don't want to have a perverted mind. My name means pure and clean, so I'mma stay pure and clean.

=3

So if you're a member you're less likely to see these? I really think you're mixing up your own words here...

If YouTube banned all videos with swearing etc and made it all 18+, think of all the music, etc, you guys wouldn't be able to watch/listen to.

Like, it just seems stupid to make a whole other site for people that aren't 18 yet, to just be disappointed by kiddie videos.

I dunno :\

You guys.... This thread reeks of fail.

Youtube IS NOT for kids. I'm pretty sure you have to be sixteen or something to make an account. If you don't like it, don't go on it.

There will always be people who swear. You can't censor life. Youtube = Free Speech. And there are some opinions you can't express with "I do not like this very much."

But I do agree, someone should make a "kidtube" or something. It might be pointless though, all the kids would still go to youtube for the action. As for the bullies, their everywhere. Can't escape that.
