Hey, my place still costs far too much!
I was with my Adam (i call him this because he has a weird norwegian name) and karen for ice cream today. We sat at the food court, and five minutes later there was a family of four arriving. Not too many seconds later the baby in the stroller started screaming. It screamed and screamed until the entire bunch at the food court put their spoons down and stared. A woman looked like she was chewing on her inner cheek, and Adam "had to go to take out some cash". It screamed for ten minutes before i couldn't stand it any longer an had to leave my half-eaten Oreo-Dream ice cream.

We hid in an air-conditioned linen shop, but we heard the baby scream and cry.

I do feel sorry for the baby whose mother forgot to give water in this heat (32 Celcius) but there has to be a limit, don't you think? We weren't the only ones bothered by it! What's wrong with these parents who take their kids to a steaming hot precourse to purgatory mall, and neglect them when they need somthing just to get it their way?

Please don't call me a babyhater, because i love kids, but i hate parents who are inconsiderate and egoistic.

Shouldn't it be illegal having giant prams and screaming babies at narrow-space cafès? :)

Erm, dude? Baby. Screaming. Natural.
Its like saying "DON'T POOP!"

And I'm sure the kid had water.
Agreed.

I used to go swimming every saturday to get some exercise for 30-45 min. Because it was a public swim, kids and bratty young teens and screaming little piles of nonsense went to. It got to the point it was crowded and annoying for me to exercise...so what did I do about it? I changed my schedule. I go on tuesdays now in the afternoon since it's the adult swim. No annoying kids, no screamers, no frustration. Plus I get extra exercise out of it because it takes 30 min to walk there, 30 min to swim then 30 min to walk back so no one can tell me I ain't keeping a healthy lifestyle ;D

Kids like that are annoying, but it's not everytime you're going to run into that, and if you do there's ways around it so really saying it should be illegal is more silly on your part. If you run into that a lot, deal with it constructively instead of wanting to ban such things.

I don't think it should be illegal. Babies screaming = natural. They probably needed a diaper change, or something was wrong with them.

I sat behind a family with a baby and it was screaming and crying, but we still stayed in there. :)

a baby screaming is something almost every baby does...he probaly wanted attention or something.

so why didn't the parents give it to their kid? I mean, it's not about the baby, but careless parents. I'm not sure that kid was very happy and i know when kids are thirsty, believe me. They just sat there doing nothing and their kid was screaming!

Crying is ok. five minutes, ten minutes, ok. but 15-20-30? That's not fair to anyone, especially not a sweaty, thirsty baby. it's also about respect - other people MAY have limits... I could have taken a lot more crying, but the people around me seemed to have a problem with it.

and about illegal - i don't think its either fair, necessary or reasonable to ban anyone from public places just because they can't express what they need and have to use other "powers". however, it's not fair of self-centered parents to let their baby scream like that in public. Like wearing perfume. It's ok to do that but using an entire bottle and sit down in a crowded cafè is not very polite.

There's been a discussion going on in my town's local newspaper about having prams and strollers to cafès and restaurants. Tripping in one of them whilst carrying a loaded food tray across the room is not very funny. been there and done that, but on the other hand it's not fair to exclude parents from public areas, but this is a big town, and there's just so many baby prams all around.

The world could need more tolerance, but for both grown ups AND kids.

As a part of common courtesy, a parent should always have an escape plan. I can't understand why people with a fussy brat can't just leave!

When you have a baby, don't get used to being out much! Stay home for God's sake and everyone elses.

If the kid can't be settled, you need to leave. Always be ready to leave!

well I wasn't there so I don't know what was really going on...I'll take your word for it

Screaming babies = Annoying, but toleratable.

Now,

Screaming Toddlers = Make me wanna die.

I was with my friend Ivette at her sisters house who has 4 kids, the youngest is 3 or 4. We went to go pick up somthing to eat, and we drove past and italian ice place. Now, imagain hearing this in the screachy-high-pitched voice of a 3 year old in a car:

"I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES I WANT ICES..."

For 30 minutes. I love all of them, but that made me wanna die.

It's a baby. They scream sometimes. But I do understand what you're getting at. They should have checked to see if their child needed something. And then if he kept screaming they should have taken him out of there so the other customers don't go deaf. But you can't do anything about it now.

The first thing that came to my mind was, you will most likely hear babies scream quite alot in your life. It's completely natural for an infant to cry and make silly, loud noises at his/her young age. They don't know any better. I totally understand how annoying it can be, but you should try to tolerate it. There's some things that the parent can do, but you should'nt expect it to stop right away. Patience and respect. If it gets out-of-control, hopefully the parents would take the baby out to..well,chill out.

NO offense but it should not be illegal, but the parents should have not just kept it there! maybe they could have taken it outside or into a bathroom. Agreed? ;)

XDDD I'm sorry but that is utterly hilarious.

I agree. It is annoying when a baby starts screaming and crying in the public, but that's their closest thing to communicating with their parents until they learn to talk.

Besides, it can't be illegal, because the baby won't know it is! (Remember what your parents said to you when you were a baby? No? See my point...)

Although it is very annoying when a baby starts crying and screaming, its so he/she can tell Mommy and Daddy that they need something or need help.

But there will be a day when you see a baby somewhere in a store or something that wants to play peek-a-boo with you, and you'll forget about how annoying their crying is. :D

My, I don't think screaming should be illegal! I mean, babies do that because they can't communicate with their parents. If you lost your right to communicate with somebody, would you feel good?

I wish it were illegal for people to take their kids of age 3 or younger to public places.

If I'm going to a restaurant, I want to enjoy my meal in peace. Not listen to your little brat screaming.

What's worse is the parents who don't do ANYTHING to stop them. They just let them go off. Great parenting I see it here on a daily basis.

I would say that if a parent with an infant or toddler is going into public places, they should hire a nanny or babysitter for their children. Not as a law or restriction, but for common courtesy.

It should already be extremely blatant that you should be courteous enough to not bring your child with you to public places if they're going to scream and cry for the entire time being. If people are too narrow-minded to figure that out, which most tend to be, public areas such as restaurants should have signs up telling you that if your child causes a disruption, you should let your waiter or hostess know and take them outside or into a lobby if the building has one.

Just like at the church I attend, you're allowed to bring your children, but if they start to cause a disruption, you'll be escorted out into the main lobby until your infant or toddler calms down.

Well not everyone can afford such a "common courtesy" unless the governments are willing to pay for nannies for you ;) Just sayin'

Well, I think that a baby screaming for 10 mins means there is something wrong. I think that if a baby cries for too long untill some place starts losing coustemers there should be a small fine for noise poloution.
