Plastic near the IR? You mean the IR panel itself or the shell?

After reading all of your posts about this issue, my conclusion is that the IR is broken on your v2 in some way.
Could be a burnt out bulb?
I have a v2 with the exact same problem. I got it used aswell (mine was from ValueVillage for $1 with a bunch of other Tamagotchis, so at least we didn't pay much XD).

Aww. Tbh I agree with you there mint. It could've been damaged while in a van or something :/ Meh, it works fine otherwise, so it doesen't matter all that much. 
And wow, awesome! I've only had a bundle of 3 before (this V2, a V4 and a V4.5, same person, the other 2 are fine). What a good deal xD
