A fake would be a tamagotchi without the bandai logo on it, or the price would be to good to be true. Be very careful.

Whell, I don't think other companies copy everything exactly, so maybe they found a way to copy just enough to not get them sued.

Oh yeah, if people are selling these tamas on ebay and calling them tamagotchis, you should totally report them.
