My brother did it. I have proof. You see, he did DRUGS and SMOKING for 3 years. And he stopped cold turkey. And he doesnt get over things well. When my parents took away his guitar for a week, he threatened to run away. And he has done that a lot

So? They can get over it.
Get over it...GET OVER IT?! O_O"

People who smoke can't just "Get over it"

It's an addiction! It's very hard for most people to get over it.

It's not like getting over a dead puppy. It's much, much harder. >.>"

Just cause your brother was able to stop "Cold Turkey"

Doesn't mean everyone else in the world can.

Woah woah woah. I'm just making a point that if my brother can, then anyone else can learn to get over it. It's killing people!!!

It should not be illegal because it's soooo hard to quit and because of that alot of innocent people would get arrested.

Then again smoking should never have been invented in the first place.

*polar bear face palm*

People can't get over it. If you dislike smoking, so be it. Leave people alone who do.

Yes, think about it. If smoking was illegal, 3 quarters of the U.S's population would be in jail. No, it should not. Imagine, most of the people you know who smoke would go in jail, you will be pretty sad. It's not like they're doing anything wrong. It's your decicion to smoke or not, I'd reccomend NOT, because drugs like that can be very harmful to your body and it's actions once it enters your blood stream. It may ware off quickly, but that still dosent mean anything. For people who don't quite get what smoking is, Smoking is a practice where a substance, most commonly tobacco, is burned and the smoke tasted or inhaled. This is primarily done as a form of recreational drug use, as combustion releases the active substances in drugs such as nicotine and makes them available for absorption through the lungs. It can also be done as a part of rituals, to induce trances and spiritual enlightenment. The most common method of smoking today is through cigarettes, either industrially manufactured or rolled with loose tobacco and a rolling paper. Other forms, though not as common, are pipes, cigars, hookahs and bongs.

Smoking is one of the most common forms of recreational drug use. Tobacco smoking is today by far the most popular form of smoking and is practiced by over one billion people in the majority of all human societies. Less common drugs for smoking include cannabis and opium. Most drugs that are smoked are considered to be addictive. Some of the substances are classified as hard narcotics, like heroin and crack cocaine, but the use of these is very limited.

The history of smoking can be dated to as early as 5000 BC, and has been recorded in many different cultures across the world. Tobacco has been cultivated and smoked in the Americas for at least 5000 years, originating in the Peruvian and Ecuadorian Andes. The smoking of cannabis in India has been practiced for over 4000 years. Early smoking evolved in association with religious ceremonies; as offerings to deities, in cleansing rituals or to allow shamans and priests to alter their minds for purposes of divination or spiritual enlightenment. After the European exploration and conquest of the Americas, the practice of smoking tobacco quickly spread to the rest of the world. In regions like India and Subsaharan Africa, it merged with existing practices of smoking (mostly of cannabis). In Europe, it introduced a new type of social activity and a form of drug intake which previously had been unknown.

The cultural perception surrounding smoking has varied over time and from one place to another; holy and sinful, sophisticated and vulgar, a panacea and deadly health hazard. Only recently, and primarily in industrialized Western countries, has smoking come to be viewed in a decidedly negative light. Today medical studies have proven that smoking is among the leading causes of diseases such as lung cancer, heart attacks and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and can also lead to birth defects. The well-proven health hazards of smoking have caused many countries to institute high taxes on tobacco products and anti-smoking campaigns are launched every year in an attempt to curb smoking. Several countries, states and cities have also imposed smoking bans in most public places.

No. I think a law banning smoking would be.. Well, stupid, honestly.

Nicotine is highly addictive. You don't seem to understand how difficult it would be for someone to give up smoking. Some people can handle it. Others, not so well.

I do agree that people shouldn't smoke around children, or in public places, but I also think it would be going a bit too far with banning it altogether.

Okay, so some say "No more smoking, It hurts the environment, and it can cause cancer" etc. So, say smoking is made illegal because it can cause lung cancer. Tanning beds and cell phones can cause cancer as well - They go too. So can some meat. Radiation. And we are already doing our best to prevent some of these.

Smoking around young children or for women, smoking when pregnant, can cause health risks, but anybody with common sense would stop.

People have made bad choices. People have gotten hooked. But if they want to continue ruining their body but their body alone, I say they actually have a right to that. Then again, that's just how I see it.

I can see why you think smoking should be illegal, *tama_dreamer*, but look at it rationally, from a smoker's point of view, maybe? "Getting over it" wouldn't seem like the easiest thing to do.

And if it does happen, chances are people would continue to smoke. Then comes jail or fines, and everything would seem to go downhill.

Smoking is one of the stupidest things you can do to your body, in the long run. I defientely think it should be illegal!

If smoking is banned only because its stupid, then so should everything that could possibly be stupid.

Yes, smoking can mess you up, yes I don't smoke.

I think it should be illegale to smoke in car with people under 18, and in public places, or non-desinated smoking areas.

Otherwise go ahead :\...

Ok. It should also be illegal to go to the bathroom in the toilets at walmart.

Not smoking in public? Smoking areas? Thats like saying its illegal to drink in a pub.

Public property is everyone's land.

It shoudn't be if it is harming any thing.

You truly don't know the dangers of smoking do you...? >.< I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but with the posts I've seen in this topic, it seems like you don't. :D
Actually, I do, thanks. >.> I am not your child, kthnx. You know what? The link between smoking and lung cancer is 0.4. YOU don't know the un-dangers.

a family member of mine stopped smoking, sure, she can smell clearer, and drinks A TON less coffee, but it was really really hard for her to get over. She substituted it with popcorn for a while, actually. o.0

But my point was, she had been smoking for a fairly long time, and you know what? No lung cancer, no drop dead, no breathing spasms, no asthema, no nothing. -.-' I've known a fair few of smokers or former smokers, and as long as your not smoking crack, drugs, or those Clove cigarettes, your fine.
