What is the difference between a v1 tamagotchi and the original one that came out in 1997?

Ok I saw a link in another post and it had a picture of all the different v5 families and in each family there was a character that looked like it would be the family pet or something... What is up with this?

I have no clue what my tama is suppose to weigh. I see alot of posts about weight but I have yet to find any real info on it. Does anyone have a weight chart or something?
