I think it is random. One time my tama (V3, not v2 like yours though) was very, very light (20 lbs., teen), and he got to level 4 easily, and I used that same teen when he was pretty heavy (80 lbs., teen) and still got to level 4 easily, thenn lost level 5, like i did when he was 20 lbs. Sure...

Maybe the battery is defective. Try just taking out the battery for a few days, then put it back in and reset it. If it still doesn't work, try getting a new battery. Make sure its the right one.

That's also happened to me, and my sister, and my friend.. and my other friend. My sister and I just put in new batteries- and it worked like new. This glitch doesn't harm your tamgotchi, it just is a weird one.
